The Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB), through the Research, Program and Organizational Development (RPOD) Program Management Office (PMO) organized the Mega Cebu Purok Awards on December 3, 2018 at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu.
The event recognized the Mega Cebu focal teams of the Metro Cebu local government units (LGUs) and the puroks with distinction of Metro Cebu.
Having made a headway in fostering grassroots participation in community development through the puroks, the RPOD PMO wishes to highlight the initiatives of the outstanding puroks by telling their stories to the rest of the Metro Cebu LGUs.
As of the moment, 11 of the 13 LGUs of Metro Cebu have either an executive order or an ordinance establishing and institutionalizing the purok system. 2,120 functional puroks have been organized with the assistance and support from the Constituency Building team of the Mega Cebu Program of RAFI.
Last October 3, the MCDCB RPOD PMO hosted the iteration of the Purok Talks which was first organized in 2017.
The event convened purok leaders and officers, LGU officials, and private partners to highlight the significance of the purok as a platform for increased community participation in community development and in participatory governance of localities.
Finally, this activity also serves as a venue to show appreciation and to honor the Mega Cebu Focal Teams and the Purok Organizing Teams of each LGU for their efforts to develop community and grassroots support for Mega Cebu.
The MCDCB is a coordinating body for metro-wide planning and development created on April 1, 2011 through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by local government executives, heads of national government agencies, and leaders of the private – civil society sector.
