  • Ziptrak Original Track-Guided Blinds System Resolves Top Pain Points for over 4,500 Singaporean Homes and Businesses

Ziptrak Original Track-Guided Blinds System Resolves Top Pain Points for over 4,500 Singaporean Homes and Businesses

Ziptrak(R), the original patented track-guided blind system based in Australia, has been making balcony and semi-outdoor spaces in Singapore more usable, protecting homes and businesses from sun glare, rain, noise, UV radiation and heat. To date, it has been installed in over 4,500 residences and commercial spaces with a proven track record of durability, where less than one percent of units installed required full replacements.

Track-guided blinds are designed so that the blind material moves along a track, preventing wind and insects from entering, and cold air to escape from. Unlike traditional cabled blinds, which flap about in the wind and are exposed at the sides, the blind material will remain in the tracks and continue to protect your spaces, come rain or shine. The trifecta of quality, experience and innovation has been making waves since the very first installation of Ziptrak blinds at IMM Outlet Mall in December 2012, to its introduction to the Singapore market in early 2017.

    1. QUALITY – Every component is selected for its strength and durability; with a 2m by 2m blind being able to withstand a static load equivalent to wind speeds of 260km/hr. For a product that needs to withstand scorching sun, lashing winds and fierce rain, only the strongest and most durable, rust-free components are, and should be, used.

    2. EXPERIENCE – With over 20 years of customer insights and feedback, Ziptrak is able to adapt and curate features that perform outstandingly in today’s conditions, such as the RainOut fabric range, PestOut(R) Pelmet and Child Safety Latch which were introduced specifically to address concerns and pain points of the Singapore market.

    3. INNOVATION – Ziptrak also patented the revolutionary manual SuperSpring(R) system, built with the elderly in mind, and known for its ease of movement without the need for cords, cranks or even motors.

Customised Features for residences in Singapore

With Singapore being its largest market in Southeast Asia, the creators of Ziptrak came up with a unique series of features catered specifically to address the concerns of local homeowners.

    1. Rain Out, Stay Dry
Stay dry from the 168 thunderstorm days that Singapore experiences each year with the 100% waterproof RainOut Fabric range, which features a fiberglass laminated weave to keep your balcony dry.

    2. Pest Out, Stay Clean
Our PestOut(R) Pelmet also keeps the pelmet pest-free and also helps to rid the fabric of dust with a sweeping motion every time the blinds are drawn up.

    3. Child Lock, Stay Safe
As a preventive feature exclusively for Singapore’s many high-rise buildings, the manual Ziptrak(R) SuperSpring(R) blinds come with the option of a Child Safety Latch, which prevents the blinds from being lifted beyond railing height when deployed, keeping it at a safe height for your little ones with a simple turn of the latch.

    4. Unobstructed Views, Stay Free
The recent introduction of Ziptrak(R) PanoView(R) blinds, which stretches up to 6m wide without requiring a post in between for support, also allows for a super wide un-obstructed viewing pleasure of Singapore’s morning sunrise and night-time city lights. Being able to maneuverer around limitations posed by elevators and stairwells in high-rise developments, Ziptrak PanoView blinds eradicates the need for support posts, giving rise to an unobstructed view beyond.

Ziptrak is exclusively distributed in Singapore and Malaysia by its official distributor, DuraBlinds Trading Pte. Ltd., since August 2017, and is only available at authorised retailers. Please visit https://www.sg.ziptrak.com/ for more information.

  • BioVaxys Files Patent Application for Novel COVID-19 Diagnostic for T-Cell Immunity

BioVaxys Files Patent Application for Novel COVID-19 Diagnostic for T-Cell Immunity

BioVaxys Technology Corp. (CSE: BIOV) (“BioVaxys” or “the Company”), a world leader in haptenized protein vaccine research and development, announced today that it has filed a Provisional Patent Application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office entitled METHOD AND KIT FOR DETECTION OF CELL MEDIATED IMMUNE RESPONSE related to the potential development of a diagnostic for evaluating the presence or absence of a T-cell immune response to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The BioVaxys method is based on measuring an immune response in a human showing no signs or symptoms of an active SARS-CoV-2 infection by administering a skin test of a subunit of the SARS-CoV-2 S-protein. Using Delayed Type Hypersensitivity[1] (“DTH”), a method which is known to demonstrate prior exposure and T cell immunity to tuberculosis[2], the immune system causes an inflammatory response that develops 24 to 72 hours after exposure. This type of immune response involves mainly T-cells rather than antibodies, which are made by B-cells.

If ultimately successful, the diagnostic is intended to provide a low-cost, easy-to-administer, and accurate way to test for the presence of T-cells against SARS-CoV-2. Currently, the available methods of measuring T-cell immunity require a blood draw from the test subject followed by the time-consuming and expensive analysis of the blood sample at specialized laboratories. BioVaxys’ diagnostic includes a way to digitally measure T-cell presence via a smartphone (through the magnitude of the skin response which is a hallmark of DTH) so results can be sent immediately to healthcare providers. At this time, future studies and experiments are required to demonstrate that DTH from protein skin prick correlates to T-cell immunity in the blood against SARS-CoV-2. Now that the provisional patent application has been filed, BioVaxys intends to begin its studies, leveraging the planned work in Q1 2021 related to the manufacturing and clinical development of BVX-0320, BioVaxys’s preclinical vaccine candidate for SARS-CoV-2, as it is anticipated that BioVaxys will initially investigate the use of the same GMP-compliant protein for the DTH diagnostic that is used in the manufacturing of BVX-0320.

David Berd, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at BioVaxys, who initially studied the potential use of DTH as a surrogate marker of T cell immunity in the context of clinical investigation of therapeutic autologous haptenized cancer vaccines[3], stated, “The availability of a low-cost and simple diagnostic for T-cell immunity would represent a critical tool for public health authorities to identify safe and at-risk populations and may contribute to worldwide efforts to combat COVID-19. BioVaxys believes that its novel T-cell diagnostic also provides an effective and low-cost tool to evaluate the effectiveness of any SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate in stimulating T cell immunity.”[3]

Recent peer-reviewed studies, including one in Nature[4] and Cell[5], have highlighted the potential importance of T-cell, in addition to antibodies, when it comes to evaluating long-term immunity in patients who have recovered from COVID-19. While further evaluation is necessary, exploring this part of the immune system’s response to prevent future infection will be necessary in the global fight against this disease.

BioVaxys’ CEO, James Passin stated, “We are thrilled to further develop and move our novel diagnostic for SARS-CoV-2 T-cell immunity towards commercialization. The mass availability of our low cost and easy-to-administer T-cell immunity diagnostic could help to complement antibody testing and various public health risk mitigation strategies.”

A provisional patent application offers a patent applicant an option of filing without including a formal patent claim. In BioVaxys’s case, however, numerous patent claims have been included in the Provisional Application. The aim of a provisional patent application is to establish an early effective filing date, in addition to allowing the patent applicant to ascribe the phrase “patent pending” to any commercial products, methods, or services contemplated by the subject matter claimed. BioVaxys also plans to pursue an international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application, from which national stage patent applications can be submitted in both industrial jurisdictions and developing countries around the world.

    Additional Information:
    – BioVaxys’ patent application is for a diagnostic tool to test for SARS-COV-2, and not for a therapeutic treatment of SARS-COV-2. In addition, BioVaxys intends to seek future clearance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration after sufficient clinical tests can be evaluated.
    – BioVaxys makes no express or implied claims that it has developed a vaccine to treat COVID-19 (or SARS-2 Coronavirus) at this time.

David Berd, M.D. the Chief Medical Officer of BioVaxys, has reviewed and approved the scientific disclosure contained in this press release. Dr. Berd is a medical oncologist with a lifelong record of clinical research in medical oncology and cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Berd received his BS from Pennsylvania State University and his MD from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.

    About BioVaxys Technology Corp.

Based in Vancouver, BioVaxys Technology Corp. is a British Columbia-registered, early stage biotechnology company that is developing viral and oncology vaccine platforms for SARS-CoV-2 and various cancers. The Company is advancing a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine based on its haptenized viral protein technology, and is planning a clinical trial of its haptenized autologous cell therapy used in combination with anti-PD1 and anti-PDL-1 checkpoint inhibitors that will initially be developed for ovarian cancer. BioVaxys has two issued US patents and two patent applications related to its cancer vaccine, and a patent application for its SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) technology. BioVaxys common shares trade on the CSE under the stock symbol “BIOV” and are listed on the Frankfurt Bourse (FSE: 5LB).

The Executive Centre launches the “Welcome Back to The Office” campaign

The COVID-19 outbreak has led to businesses and employees re-evaluating what the workplace means to them. Today, The Executive Centre (TEC), the leading premium flexible workspace provider across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, launches the “Welcome Back to The Office” video campaign, where characters find ways to adapt to the new working environment.

The campaign is a take on the work-from-home phenomenon, and while the characters in the videos are fictional, their triumphs and struggles are drawn from real experiences of TEC’s 1000+ global team.

What’s clear is that while homeworking arrangements are becoming normalised and people are enjoying less commuting, not having to dress to impress and spending more time with their families; on the flip side, there are also irreplaceable benefits of working in an office such as proper coffee in a proper coffee cup, chatting to colleagues and collaborating on projects, IT that works, comfortable ergonomic furniture, admin support, and a highly-productive environment that boosts concentration and minimises distractions.

“After an extended period of time working from home, we are inspired to explore how the typical workday has changed, and is continuing to change,” said Paul Salnikow, TEC Founder and CEO. “We believe the future of the workplace hinges on its relationship with the people who truly make it work. As the pandemic has accelerated the shift to flexible workspaces, we are certain that the office, rather than becoming obsolete, will become an increasingly valuable asset facilitating collaboration and driving business growth. Our clients are telling us that their offices of the future will need solutions that are tailored to their success, limit current challenges, give their staff maximum flexibility and provide the best office environment that they can find.”

Welcome Back to the Office – Good to leave, even better to come back.

  • New Survey Shows Philippines Among Highest in Online Piracy in Southeast Asia

New Survey Shows Philippines Among Highest in Online Piracy in Southeast Asia

A new study of the online content viewing behaviour of Filipino consumers has found that 49% access streaming piracy websites or torrent sites. The levels of piracy went as high as 53% within the 25-34 age demographic. The survey commissioned by the Asia Video Industry Association‘s Coalition Against Piracy (CAP) and conducted by YouGov, found that 47% of consumers who accessed piracy sites cancelled their subscriptions to both local and international content services.

The levels of piracy in the Philippines now dwarfs neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia which have both seen substantial reductions in online piracy over the last 12 months. In Indonesia a similar YouGov survey found a massive 55% reduction in Indonesians accessing piracy services with 28% of consumers admitting to accessing piracy websites compared to 63% in 2019. In Malaysia, a YouGov survey found a 64% decline in users accessing piracy sites when compared to a similar YouGov survey in 2019.

In both countries, a key variable for the decline in online piracy levels was the government’s proactive piracy site blocking initiative. In Malaysia more than half (55%) of online consumers noticed that a piracy service had been blocked by the Malaysian government, which subsequently influenced viewing habits with 49% stating that they no longer accessed piracy services and 40% saying that they now ‘rarely accessed’ piracy services as a result of the site blocking.

A Bill currently before the Philippine Senate (Bill #497) entitled the ‘Online Infringement Act’ proposes a regulatory site blocking mechanism which would empower the authorities to ensure that ISPs take “reasonable steps to disable access to sites whenever these sites are reported to be infringing copyright or facilitating copyright infringement.”

The recent YouGov survey suggests that a regulatory site blocking mechanism would be supported by the majority of Filipino consumers. When given choices of what they thought were effective measures of reducing piracy behaviour, 53% of Filipinos agree that a “government order or law for ISPs to block piracy websites” would be the most effective.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said, “The ill effects of online piracy cannot be underestimated. We have been an advocate of content streaming through legal sites only through our #PlayItRight program. This advocacy educates people on the impacts of online piracy and on making the right choices when it comes to online consumption.”

For his part, Atty Teodoro Pascua, Deputy Director General, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said, “The wide variety of legal services in the Philippines which provide premium entertainment content are reliable and importantly are legal. The piracy alternatives fund crime groups put consumers at risk of malware infection and are unreliable. Piracy only benefits the criminal organisations who are behind these illegal websites.”

Neil Gane, the General Manager of AVIA’s Coalition Against Piracy (CAP) commented, “We are confident that Indonesia and Malaysia will rise to become market leaders in video IP protection in the region, as a result of their site-blocking strategies. We are also confident that other countries in Asia, such as the Philippines, will take note and follow suit, boosting the growth of legal consumption of Filipino and international content.”

When asked about the negative consequences of online piracy, Filipino consumers placed funding crime groups (55%), loss of jobs in the creative industry (50%) and malware risks (49%) as their top three concerns.
