  • EAGLE Trial Shows Olympus CADDIE AI Solution Aids in the Detection of High-Risk and Hard-to-Detect Colorectal Lesions

Cloud-based AI application for colorectal cancer prevention: Enhancing detection of clinically significant lesions without compromising safety and workflow efficiency

TOKYO, Feb 3, 2026 – (JCN Newswire) – Olympus Corporation (Olympus), a global MedTech company committed to making people’s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling, today announced publication of the EAGLE Trial1 — a multicenter randomized controlled study evaluating the CADDIE™ device, the first cloud-based Computer-Aided Detection (CADe) application for real-time polyp detection during colonoscopy that is both FDA-cleared and CE-marked. The CADDIE software is the first solution introduced as part of the OLYSENSE™ Intelligent Endoscopy Ecosystem.

The cloud-based CADDIE™ device for computer-aided detection indicates a potential polyp during a colonoscopy procedure.
The cloud-based CADDIE™ device for computer-aided detection indicates a potential polyp during a colonoscopy procedure.

The trial indicates that cloud-deployed AI can help endoscopists detect the lesions that matter most in preventing progression to cancer25 — large adenomas, particularly those flat in morphology, and sessile serrated lesions (SSLs) — without disrupting safety or workflow. The study has been published in npj Digital Medicine.1

    EAGLE Trial Overview

The EAGLE (Evaluation of AI for detection of Gastrointestinal Lesions in Endoscopy) study was conducted across eight centers in four European countries6, and its primary analysis involved 841 patients and 22 endoscopists performing screening and surveillance colonoscopies. Patients were randomized to standard colonoscopy or CADDIE-assisted colonoscopy.

    Key Findings

    • Improved detection of high-risk and hard-to-detect lesions
In screening and surveillance patients, use of the CADDIE™ application was associated in this study with 7.3% absolute increase in adenoma detection rate (ADR), compared to standard colonoscopy. Moreover, significant relative increases in lesions detected per colonoscopy were observed in this study for clinically relevant lesion subtypes: 93% for large (>10 mm) adenomas, 57% for non-polyploid adenomas and 230% for SSLs.
    • Feasible and efficient real-time cloud-based deployment
The system demonstrated real-time performance and operational efficiency across diverse testing environments.

    Clinically Relevant by Design

The CADDIE™ application is trained on a dataset enriched in clinically relevant and hard-to-detect lesions, including flat sessile serrated lesions (SSLs) and large polyps (≥10 mm).

Lesions with sessile or flat morphology are difficult to detect and can harbor clinically relevant pathology. SSLs, in particular, are high-risk lesions whose detection is critical to reducing the risk of post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer34. The ability to reliably detect SSLs is increasingly viewed as a critical quality consideration in colonoscopy7. This study demonstrates increased detection of clinically relevant lesions and no increase in unnecessary resections, addressing some of the concerns raised in recent guidelines89.

    Why Cloud Matters?

The CADDIE™ application leverages a cloud architecture that uses industry standard security controls. Cloud deployment offers hospitals flexibility, reducing reliance on hardware and enabling subscription-based procurement models. This approach can democratize access to advanced AI tools and lays the foundation for future AI applications in endoscopy.

    Expert Perspectives

“This study marks a pivotal shift in the clinical translation of AI-assisted endoscopy,” said Rawen Kader, Principal Investigator of the EAGLE Trial and GI Researcher at University College London. “Cloud deployment can remove hardware barriers and give hospitals access to the latest AI innovations, which has the potential of improving detection of the lesions that matter most for reducing colorectal cancer risk.”

“The publication of EAGLE study in a high-impact journal like npj Digital Medicine is a pivotal moment for Olympus, supporting clinical adoption of the CADDIE™ device as an AI solution that can enhance detection of clinically relevant lesions without compromising safety or efficiency,” said Miquel Àngel García, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Gastrointestinal Business Unit, Olympus Corporation.

“The EAGLE trial demonstrates how cloud‑based AI can be translated into routine endoscopy at scale,” said Peter Mountney, CEO of Odin Vision and Vice President, AI Unit, Olympus Corporation. “By delivering AI in real time through the cloud, we can help accelerate innovation and enable hospitals around the world to benefit from our latest, evidence‑based technologies to support clinicians and enhance the quality of care.”

    Fair Balance Statement

The gastroenterologist is responsible for reviewing CADDIE suspected polyp areas and confirming the presence or absence of a polyp based on their own medical judgment.

CADDIE is not intended to replace a full patient evaluation, nor is it intended to be relied upon to make a primary interpretation of endoscopic procedures, medical diagnosis, or recommendations of treatment/course of action for patients. The CADDIE computer-assisted detection device is limited for use with standard white-light endoscopy imaging only.

It believes that the rare and exceptional value that will remain through 2085 lies in the domains that make us human, so it is engaged in the pursuit of “Precious Things” that link to the “Embodiment” and “Emotion” uniquely inherent to people.

Precious Fragrance is one of the fruits of its efforts to realize these “Precious Things”. The goal of this project is to embody sensibilities through “fragrance”, which directly acts on the human cerebral limbic system and remains in the form of memories.

In fiscal year 2025, TANAKA began working together with fragrance experts to develop fragrances from the ground up, led by the concept of “Authentic Uniqueness,” derived from the metal that is synonymous with TANAKA: gold (Au). The culmination of these efforts was the perfume “The TANAKA 2025.” Only 1,000 bottles of this perfume, which is not for sale, have been made. They will provide an unparalleled fragrance experience, a signature of the TANAKA brand.

We plan to expand the “Precious Fragrance” collection in the future by focusing on the development of fragrances based on metals such as silver (Ag) and platinum (Pt).

    The TANAKA 2025’s fragrance design

The theme of this fragrance is “Radiant Golden Glow,” a noble floral oriental scent, luxuriously composed of vibrant natural rose and elegant natural iris, accented with a chic touch of oud. The moment someone puts it on, the fragrance unfolds with a radiant golden glow, evoking the dazzling brilliance of gold.

    Design and appearance

Fragrance was not the only thing lavish attention was paid to—the utmost care was also paid to The TANAKA 2025’s design. The triangular glass bottle is unique, made using newly created molds. The logo’s motif is “田,” the first character in “田中” (“TANAKA”). It is iconic, calling to mind the image of a Japanese family crest. The base colors of the packaging and label are a deep midnight blue and gold, imparting a sense of exceptional grace and discernment.

This enables an experience where unique Kaneko-style cards are generated based on user actions, surpassing 1.6 million cards generated in the first two months after release. This pioneers a new genre, “Generative Games,” which explores the potential of generative AI in entertainment.

  • TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL GROUP and TANAKA MIRAI Lab. Released Their Fourth Collaborative Musical Work with Sound Wellness Lab (Della): “Precious Metal Orchestra – A Musical Voyage through the Sound of Precious Metals for Christmas” now available for streaming.

An illumination expressed through sound, produced by the unique notes of gold, silver, and platinum performing Christmas classics

TOKYO, Dec 18, 2025 – (JCN Newswire) – TANAKA MIRAI Lab., an in-house innovation organization of TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL GROUP Co., Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Group CEO: Koichiro Tanaka), has co-created the musical work with Sound Wellness Lab, the sound research institute of Della Co., Ltd., a long-established label known for music that supports mental and physical well-being. The series features musical works composed entirely from the sounds of precious metals such as gold (Au), silver (Ag), and platinum (Pt). The fourth release in the series, “Precious Metal Orchestra – A Musical Voyage through the Sound of Precious Metals for Christmas” became available on major music streaming services on Friday, October 31, 2025, available exclusively in Japanese.

TANAKA has been advancing a transformation of its overall business toward the year 2085, the 200th anniversary of its founding, with the aim of “creating a bright future that no one has ever seen before.” As part of this initiative, TANAKA established the TANAKA MIRAI Lab., an organization dedicated to driving the creation of new paradigms for a better future—from emergence to realization—and has been pursuing a wide range of research and development activities.

As one of its research themes, TANAKA MIRAI Lab. has turned its focus to the “acoustic properties of precious metals”. With support from Della’s Sound Wellness Lab—which scientifically analyzes the physiological and psychological effects of sound on humans and produces musical works based on these insights—TANAKA MIRAI Lab. has been developing a unique series of musical compositions created solely from precious metal sounds since June 2025.

The fourth collaborative musical work in the series features a Christmas theme. The piece is composed entirely of shimmering sound sources created from real precious metals performing well-known and classic Christmas melodies, delivering an ‘illumination of sound’ that enriches and transforms any space. The sound design was led by composer Mitsuhiro, renowned for his many acclaimed healing-music works.

Going forward, we plan to further expand the range of precious metal sound sources and incorporate more diverse performance techniques, with the aim of establishing ‘precious metal sound’ as a new musical genre.

    Composer Mitsuhiro’s Comment

The sound produced by pure precious metals is astonishingly clear. It extends with a pristine, unwavering purity—like the crisp air of an early winter morning—and that clarity is part of its unique appeal. In an era that values music capable of moving the heart through the power of simple, authentic sound, I hope these compositions will be enjoyed across many occasions, from celebrations such as weddings to in-store background music, or even as a musical gift accompanying something special for a loved one.

About the “Precious Metal Orchestra – A Musical Voyage Through the Sound of Precious Metals” Project

The project to create music using the sounds of precious metals began in August 2023. Leveraging TANAKA’s core strengths, the team specially crafted eight types of precious metal plates—including gold (Au), silver (Ag), and platinum (Pt). Through months of prototyping and repeated recording sessions, these materials were successfully transformed into high-quality sound sources.

Sound sources of various pitches were recorded by striking precious metal plates of different sizes (shown here is pure gold) mounted on the glockenspiel, which is a keyboard percussion instrument that produces sound by striking metal bars with mallets.

The compositions recorded using sound sources derived from each precious metal—each possessing its own distinct tone, resonance (overtones), and even ultrasonic overtones beyond the audible range—are well-known masterpieces of classical music. These works have already been released as Vol. 1 through Vol. 3 in the unique “precious metal sound” series.

Sound Wellness Lab (Dela Co., Ltd.)

Della Co., Ltd. has established its own research institute, the Sound Wellness Lab, to harness the power of music in medical and wellness settings. The company scientifically analyzes the effects that elements such as the resonance, volume, and tempo of sound have on people’s physiological and psychological states and continues to explore the possibilities of sound in collaboration with experts in a variety of fields.

    Mitsuhiro’s biography

Graduated in 1985 from the Department of Composition at Kunitachi College of Music. In 1991, he established the Nagano Music Institute. To date, he has released over 100 original CD albums, more than 250 arranged CD albums, and has published over 20 music books.
