  • SAKENOVA: 28-Year-Old Master Brewer Pioneers AI-Driven Sake Revolution, Achieving 40% Cost Reduction While Winning International Gold Medals

A New Era in Japanese Sake: Tech-Native “Toji” Fuses Traditional Craft with Advanced IoT to Create World-Class Quality

TOKYO, Dec 15, 2025 – (ACN Newswire) – SAKENOVA, a visionary sake brand led by 28-year-old CEO and Master Brewer Daichi Niiyama (born 1997), has announced a breakthrough in sake production that marries centuries-old tradition with cutting-edge AI technology. By implementing IoT sensors and AI-optimized fermentation processes, SAKENOVA (sakenova.com) has successfully reduced labor costs by approximately 40% while achieving the highest level of quality stability. This innovation has been validated globally, with the brand’s flagship products winning Gold Medals at prestigious competitions in Singapore and Luxembourg, and securing placements in Japan’s most exclusive luxury venues including Janu Tokyo and Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo. (SAKENOVA Dec 15)

    INNOVATION HIGHLIGHTS

    – AI-Native Brewing Revolution: Led by a former AI engineer turned Toji, utilizing proprietary data analytics to visualize fermentation processes and ensure precision quality control previously reliant solely on intuition.

    – Efficiency Meets Excellence: Achieved a 40% reduction in manufacturing labor costs through automation, proving high-efficiency tech can produce Gold Medal-winning ultra-premium sake.

    – Global Acclaim: Winner of Gold Medals at the Singapore Sake Challenge and Luxembourg Sake Challenge; served at the Tokyo International Film Festival Opening Ceremony.

    – Future of Flavor: Upcoming launch of the “ALPHA” series, a genre-defying botanical craft sake designed to captivate the international palate.

SAKENOVA is redefining the industry standard by demonstrating that digital transformation (DX) in brewing not only preserves tradition but enhances it. The brand’s flagship, featuring an extreme 7% rice polishing ratio, has already been adopted by The Ritz-Carlton Okinawa and other top-tier establishments. SAKENOVA is now actively seeking international importers and luxury dining partners to bring this new wave of Japanese sake to the world.

‘We are not just making sake; we are coding the future of fermentation. By offloading data management to AI, we allow our brewers to focus entirely on the art of sensory evaluation. We invite global partners to join us in this revolution.” Daichi Niiyama, CEO & Master Brewer.

    REVOLUTIONIZING TRADITION: AI-DRIVEN PRECISION BREWING

SAKENOVA is redefining the centuries-old craft of sake brewing by integrating cutting-edge IoT and AI technologies. By moving away from reliance solely on intuition, we have established a data-driven brewing process that ensures unprecedented quality stability and efficiency.

Our system utilizes IoT sensors for automatic temperature control and AI algorithms to optimize the fermentation process in real-time. This approach allows us to visualize the fermentation trajectory for each specific flavor profile, ensuring consistency that manual brewing cannot match.

  • Majority of Australian Parents (65%) and U.S. Parents 58% Support Social Media Ban for Under 16s, but Kids Say It Risks Cutting Them Off from Key Connections

New survey of 4,000 parents and children in the U.S. and Australia reveals sharp generational divides in support, fears, mental health expectations, and belief in government enforcement.

The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) released new research today examining how parents and children in the United States and Australia view social media bans for anyone under 16. The findings reveal strong parental support for such bans, in contrast with widespread concern from children who fear losing friendships and support systems that exist primarily online.

The research arrives as Australia implements a national under 16 social media ban, placing global attention on how the policy will affect youth and their families. FOSI’s study surveyed 4,000 parents and children ages 10 to 17 to understand how both groups feel about restrictions, enforcement, and the broader impact of social media on daily life.

Support for the Ban: Parents vs Children
    Parents Support the Ban

    • 65% of Australian parents support a national under 16 ban
    • 58% of U.S. parents support it

    Children Do Not

    • Only 38% of Australian children support a ban
    • Only 36% of U.S. children support it

Children, who are most directly affected by the restrictions, are less likely to support them. This gap raises a central question for policymakers. Why do parents and children view the potential impact so differently, and what might be lost if children’s concerns are overlooked?

Connection Concerns: Children Feel the Most at Risk
    Children Fear Losing Essential Connections

    • 53% of U.S. children fear a ban would disconnect them from important cause them to lose connections and support
    • 56% of Australian children feel the same

    Parents Show Lower Concern

    • 35% of U.S. parents
    • 36% of Australian parents

For many children, social media can play a meaningful role in their daily lives, offering a place to stay connected, share experiences, and feel part of a wider community. Losing access to those spaces raises important questions about how young people will continue nurturing the relationships and support system they rely on. This cultural context along with the findings above highlights an emotional dimension of the ban that many parents may underestimate.

Families are divided on the mental health impact of a ban
Some parents support a ban because they hope it will protect children’s mental health. However, parents and children disagree on whether this will actually happen. A total of 52% of U.S. parents and 42% of Australian parents agree that a ban will help protect the mental health and well-being of children. Children are less convinced, as only 43% of U.S. and 33% of Australian children hold this view. These mixed views show that families see the mental health conversation as complicated and deeply personal.

Screen Time Reduction is Expected but Not Guaranteed
Parents and children share similar beliefs about whether a social media ban would reduce overall screen time. A total of 55% of U.S. parents and 47% of Australian parents believe screen time would decrease, and nearly half of children in both countries agree. While reducing screen time is one of the most common arguments for the ban, it is important to note that not all screen time is equal. Many children use social media not only for entertainment, but for communication, schoolwork, creativity, and support. Additionally, many children, 64% in the U.S. and 59% in Australia, say they would spend more time on other digital platforms, including video games or text messaging, indicating the total screen time may remain the same.

Many believe kids will find a way around the ban
Parents and children are closely aligned when it comes to one concern. More than half of parents believe that children will find ways to circumvent the new restrictions. In the United States, 53% and in Australia, 54% of parents believe their children could work around the ban. When it comes to children ages 10 to 15 (those affected by the Australian ban), 45% of Australian children and 53% of U.S. children claim they could find a way around a ban.

These findings reflect a common perception that tech-savvy teens will find ways to bypass age restrictions if motivated to do so.

    High support for teen accounts
One of the strongest areas of consensus across all four groups is the idea of creating special teen accounts with stronger protections and guardrails. A total of 77% of U.S. parents, 74% of Australian parents, 80% of U.S. children, and 77 % of Australian children support this approach. These findings suggest that families are looking for solutions that prioritize safety without removing social media altogether. The strong support for teen accounts indicates that both parents and children prefer safer, age-appropriate options rather than an outright ban.

“Children will be the most affected by this ban, yet only one third support it,” says Alanna Powers O’Brien, Director of Research and Education at FOSI. “Many are worried about losing friendships and support they rely on every day. Their concerns should not be overlooked. As policies evolve, it is important that we listen to how young people experience the online world and ensure they feel informed, supported, and included in these conversations.”

This data was collected by Ipsos, the third largest market research company in the world, present in 90 markets and employing more than 18,000 people. The survey involved 4,000 respondents, evenly split between the United States and Australia, including 1,000 parents and 1,000 children aged 10-17 in each country. Participants qualified if they or their children used the internet for at least three hours weekly. This survey was conducted from October 2nd to October 20th, 2025. No post-hoc weights were applied to this study, and the findings reflect the opinion of survey respondents only.

  • World’s first ever spiral escalator renewal project conducted at a commercial facility in Mexico

Retaining the original curved design while contributing to improving the building’s value through maintained safety and enhanced energy efficiency

TOKYO, Nov 27, 2025 – (JCN Newswire) – Mitsubishi Electric Building Solutions Corporation (MEBS, Head Office: Chiyoda-Ku, Tokyo; President: Iwao Oda) today announced that Mitsubishi Electric de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (MELMEX), which is responsible for elevator and escalator sales in Mexico, completed the renewal of one of the spiral escalators at the Liverpool department store in the Centro Santa Fe shopping mall in Santa Fe, Mexico on October 15. This project was the first-ever spiral escalator renewal project conducted anywhere in the world.

    Spiral escalator after the renewal
    Spiral escalator after the renewal

Spiral escalators, which are curved escalators that trace an arc, are manufactured exclusively by MEBS. The unit that was renewed this time is one of two spiral escalators in Mexico delivered by the company in 1992 that remain in operation today. Elevators and escalators undergo continuous and appropriate maintenance in order to sustain and restore their functionality. However, the risks associated with deterioration through aging and the number of discontinued or unavailable parts increase over time. Through this renewal, the company replaced key components at an optimal timing, enhancing the escalator’s safety, reliability, and comfort. In addition, by applying new features and designs, the project improved its energy efficiency, and aesthetic value. The company will pass on the insights and know-how gained during this renewal to the next generation and continue to respond effectively to customers’ future needs for spiral escalator renewals.

Construction and Features of the Renewed Product

    1) The world’s first ever renewal of a spiral escalator, contributing to the product’s continued safe and secure operation

    – The team carried out the world’s first renewal of a spiral escalator, a product manufactured exclusively by MEBS.

    – Several major parts (the control panel, drive unit, safety devices, etc.) were replaced to ensure the continued safe and secure operation of this spiral escalator, which is a central feature of the building.

    2) Achieving improved energy efficiency, and aesthetic appearance by applying the latest functions and design

    – An automatic operation stationary in stand-by function has been newly introduced. A sensor detects the presence of escalator users and automatically stops operation when no users are detected. This reduces energy consumption when the escalator is unoccupied.

    – By replacing the existing polycarbonate interior panels with glass panels, the renewal will reduce aging-related effects such as photodegradation, which is a characteristic of plastic materials, and improve the escalator’s aesthetic appearance.

    – By enhancing the escalator’s energy conservation, and aesthetic appearance, the renewal will contribute to increasing the value of the customer’s building.

    3) Achieving a safe and high-quality renewal by overcoming construction conditions and structural issues with highly skilled techniques

    – Although the facility remained in operation and the working space was limited, which made it difficult to secure room for removing the existing components, the work was completed by repeatedly repositioning and reconfiguring the on-site lifting crane and gantry**.

    – During the installation of the interior panels and decorative parts, the spiral escalator’s unique curved design makes it easy for slippage and gaps to occur. To overcome this problem, skilled workers drew on their experience to make fine adjustments down to the millimeter, such as cutting parts on site.

    – Through this renewal work, the company has strengthened its ability to meet customers’ future renewal needs by reliably handing down to and sharing with the next generation the advanced, highly specialized technologies and skills related to renewal of spiral escalators.

    * The panel shown here differs from the panels delivered for the current project.
** Unlike conventional construction or overhead cranes, this is a self-supporting, lightweight crane device designed for handling light loads. It features an aluminum frame for easy installation and relocation, and can be operated without relying on the building’s structural elements.

    Future Development

Since MEBS developed the world’s first spiral escalator in 1985, MEBS has manufactured a total of 111 units. Some of these existing spiral escalators are now 30 to 40 years old, and a certain level of demand for renewing these units to continue in future years. Spiral escalators, in particular, require extremely specialized technology and expertise from design to manufacture and installation due to their unique curved structure. In addition, unlike new spiral escalator installations conducted in the past, this renewal project was the company’s first attempt to dismantle, install, and adjust existing parts that can still be used, such as the trusses that form the escalator’s framework. In this project, a skilled engineer who has successfully installed spiral escalators in Japan and all over the world took the lead and completed the work while handing down his or her expertise to the next generation. MEBS will continue to provide its one-of-a-kind spiral escalators together with high-quality maintenance and renewal services so that these machines can continue to be used safely and comfortably around the world.

  • Plant-Powered Pups: New Study Shows Dramatic Environmental Gains From Plant-Based Dog Food in the UK

A new life cycle assessment of 31 dry dog foods in the UK reveals that plant-based diets consistently outperform meat-based alternatives across every major environmental measure. Conducted by University of Nottingham veterinary researchers Rebecca Brociek and Professor David Gardner, and published in Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, the study underscores a major opportunity for pet owners and the pet food industry to shrink their ecological “pawprint.”

    Key Results

    • Greenhouse gas emissions: Plant-based foods produced just 2.82 kg CO₂-eq per 1,000 kcal, compared to 31.47 kg for beef-based formulas – over ten times higher.
    • Land use: Plant-based diets required 2.73 m² per 1,000 kcal, versus 102.15 m² for beef-based products.
    • Water use: Plant-based options consumed 249 L of freshwater per 1,000 kcal, far less than beef (575 L) or lamb (684 L).
    • Nutrient and acidification pollution: Beef-based diets generated 14-16 times more acidifying and eutrophying emissions respectively, than plant-based equivalents.
    • Middle ground: Poultry-based and semi-synthetic veterinary formulas had lower impacts than red meat, but still much higher than plant-based foods.

Over a typical nine-year lifespan, feeding a 20 kg Labrador exclusively on plant-based dry food would require 8,964 m² of land and emit greenhouse gases equal to 2.8 London-New York return flights. The same dog fed on beef-based food would need 334,851 m² of land and emit the equivalent of 31.3 such flights.

    Why It Matters
With pet ownership on the rise worldwide and demand for pet foods increasing, the environmental impact of animal-based ingredients can no longer be overlooked. The researchers conclude that increasing plant-based ingredients in pet diets provides a practical and scalable way to reduce land use, emissions, nutrient pollution, and water stress – without compromising caloric value.

They note, “feeding your dog plant-based will significantly improve a households’ environmentally sustainability”, and that, “… lower-impact pet food ingredients will be essential in reducing the [pet food] sector’s ecological paw print.”

While some suggest that using meat by-products like ‘meat meals’ is more sustainable, the study found these often ranked among the highest-impact ingredients, failing to bridge the gap.

    Broader Context
This work supports earlier research. In 2023, veterinary professor Andrew Knight demonstrated that switching pet dogs worldwide to nutritionally sound vegan diets could save greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 1.5 times the UK’s annual output, while providing enough food energy to feed 450 million people, equivalent to the EU population. By late 2025, at least 11 peer-reviewed studies had also shown positive health outcomes for dogs fed plant-based diets.

As Prof. Knight explained, “Higher proportions of plant-based ingredients, or nutritionally complete plant-based diets, can substantially reduce the ecological footprints of companion animals. As awareness grows, such diets may shift from niche to mainstream – aligning our care for pets with responsibility for the planet.”

  • NanoQT Announces First Closing of $14 Million Series A Funding to Redefine Quantum Computing

The Company’s Funding Will Accelerate Developing of the World’s First Distributed Quantum Computers Using NanoQT’s Proprietary Nanofiber-Cavity

Nanofiber Quantum Technologies, Inc. (NanoQT), a quantum computing company pioneering ultra-low-loss nanofiber cavity-QED interconnects for quantum processors, today announced the first closing of its $14 million Series A financing. Phoenix Venture Partners (PVP), an existing investor, led the round with participation from Brevan Howard Macro Venture Fund, a new investor. WASEDA University Ventures, Inc. (WUV), JAFCO Group Co Ltd, Mirai Creation Fund III (SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd.), and Keio Innovation Initiative, Inc. (KII), each existing investors, also participated.

    NanoQT’s Proprietary Nanofiber-Cavity

    NanoQT’s Proprietary Nanofiber-Cavity

The financing follows more than US$20 million in government R&D grants across Japan and the United States that support NanoQT’s roadmap. “An interconnect engineered for QPUs is the missing link in today’s market and will soon be a major bottleneck to achieving scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing,” said Masashi Hirose, Ph.D., CEO and Co-Founder of NanoQT. “Our proprietary nanofiber-cavity interconnect is highly demanded not only for scaling up quantum computing but also for integrating QPUs with quantum communication capabilities.”

“We are delighted to continue supporting NanoQT’s breakthrough,” said Nobi Kambe, Ph.D., Managing General Partner at Phoenix Venture Partners (PVP). “NanoQT has demonstrated steady R&D progress, and we believe the company will deliver a disruptive impact in the quantum computing and networking field.” “NanoQT is the best positioned in the quantum field to disrupt interconnects.”

    Why It Matters
The quantum interconnect is an emerging, critical device class-essential not only for modularizing quantum processors but also for extending them into networked and communication-enabled systems. NanoQT’s approach is an ultra-low-loss nanofiber cavity that functions as an end-to-end fiber-optic interconnect, enabling extremely efficient conversion of qubit signals into photonic signals-a capability fundamentally grounded in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED).

NanoQT’s initial product is highly engineered for neutral-atom QPUs, which today represent one of the most scalable quantum computing architectures. Yet these systems will face per-unit scalability limits within a few years. NanoQT’s interconnect provides a path beyond those limits, while also positioning the company to address the emerging quantum repeater market, which is essential for building long-distance quantum networks.

Use of Proceeds and Next Milestones

    • Demonstration of a distributed quantum computing system using NanoQT’s interconnect and standard fiber links
    • Productization of the nanofiber cavity-QED interconnect for neutral-atom QPUs
    • Expansion of engineering and manufacturing capacity in College Park, Maryland, and Tokyo

    About NanoQT
NanoQT is a quantum-hardware company building ultra-low-loss nanofiber cavity-QED interconnects that physically integrate with quantum processors to enable modular and networked quantum computing as well as compatibility with quantum communication. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with operations in College Park, Maryland and Tokyo, Japan, NanoQT combines Japan-born engineering excellence with a global commercialization strategy.
