  • NEDA-10 joins nation in celebrating 47th nutrition month

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-10 joined the celebration of the 47th National Nutrition Month, with the theme, “Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan,” through a series of activities held July 2021.

In a webinar on nutrition conducted, July 23, NEDA-10 Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño highlighted the importance of staying healthy to enable the personnel and their families to combat the ravages brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also urged the participants to make healthy food choices and exercise regularly.

For her part, Nita T. Antipuesto, city nutrition planning coordinator of the Cagayan de Oro City Health Office, shared how nutrition can greatly affect the growth and development of a child. Her presentation focused on the first 1000 days of the child, which is the golden window of opportunity for the interventions to achieve the maximum potential of child growth.

NEDA-10 personnel’s skill in photography was also tested through a Photography Contest under two categories: (1) photo entries capturing this year’s nutrition month theme; and (2) food photo entries capturing healthy recipes personally prepared by the participating NEDA-10 staff.

Renie M. Dumangas and JL Amadeus C. Cañada of the Finance and Administrative Division bagged the top prizes, respectively.

The supposed feeding program for the Home Care for Girls in Macanhan, Cagayan de Oro City, July 23, was deferred until the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) status for the city will be lifted.

Presidential Decree 491 in 1974 declared July as the National Nutrition Month to create greater awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos. The law mandates the National Nutrition Council to coordinate and lead the nationwide campaign.

The 2021 Nutrition Month theme calls for continued efforts to address malnutrition in the country, which is expected to worsen as a result of the pandemic and limited resources for nutrition. The theme calls for all sectors to focus efforts on the First 1000 Days of life as the strategic intervention to prevent stunting and obesity. (NEDA-10/PIA-10)

  • DOLE exempts Unilever from labor inspection

DOLE exempts Unilever from labor inspection

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has exempted a global manufacturing firm from the regular labor inspection after it secured a safety seal from the labor department on Tuesday.

Unilever Philippines, Inc. joined a host of other big companies to be exempt from labor inspection following compliance with strict health and safety protocols in their workplaces. Also given the same privilege were CDO Foodsphere Inc., United Laboratories, and eight firms under the San Miguel Corporation group.

Bello said the exemption is a result of Unilever obtaining their Safety Seal Certification for complying with the health protocols and safety standards implemented by the government.

Aside from that, he also explains the benefits of a safety seal to a company or an establishment.

“A safety seal gives you the permission to add 10% of customers in your restaurant, so if it was maximum of 30, you can make it up to 40 persons maximum,” Bello explained.

Moreover, the Labor chief congratulates Unilever for being more compliant not only in health protocols but also in labor standards.

Bello spearheaded the awarding of Safety Seal Certification to Unilever in a brief program held at the company’s Manila office in United Nations Avenue.

Unilever Philippines, Inc. is the Philippine subsidiary of British-Dutch multinational company, Unilever. It is a manufacturer of laundry detergents and soaps, shampoos and hair conditioners, toothpastes, deodorants, skin care products, household cleaners, and toilet soaps.

The Safety Seal Certification is a voluntary certification scheme that affirms that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses or integrates its contact tracing with StaySafe.ph.

The DOLE issues the Safety Seal for the manufacturing, construction sites, utilities (electric, water, gas, air conditioning supply, sewerage, waste management), information and communication companies (private publication, news, movie production, TV and radio companies), and warehouses which practice the health protocols implemented by the government. • DTI launches OTOP online store to further support PH MSMEs

DTI launches OTOP online store to further support PH MSMEs

apacitating the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in achieving a larger marketability online, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) successfully kicked off this year’s One Town, One Product (OTOP) National Virtual Trade Fair via Zoom and simulcasted through the official Facebook pages of the OTOP Philippines and PLDT Home Biz, 02 August 2021.

DTI is certain that empowering the MSME sector through e-commerce and digitalization like the OTOP online fair will help the Philippine trade and industry bounce back from the economic downturn due to the prolonged COVID-19 crisis.

“We believe that MSMEs will play essential role in helping to rebuild the economy back better so we can help uplift the lives of people in the pandemic future,” said Trade Secretary Ramon M. Lopez.

Developed under the OTOP Next Gen program, more than 380 MSMEs or OTOPreneurs on-boarded the official platform of the OTOP NVTF 2021 to showcase their marketable products online.

Regional Operations Group (ROG) Trade Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona encouraged the Filipino consumers to support locals by buying OTOP products from the online store at www.virtualtradeexpoph.com.

“Magagawa pa rin natin ibangon ang ekonomiya sa pamamagitan ng pagbili o pagtangkilik ng mga produktong gawa mismo ng ating mga maliliit na negosyo. Sa paraang ito, suportado pa rin natin ang mga MSMEs habang ligtas tayo mula sa banta ng virus o sakit na maaaring makuha sa labas ng tahanan,” Usec. Lantayona stated.

OTOP is a priority stimulus program for MSMEs as government’s customized intervention to drive inclusive local economic growth. The program enables localities and communities to determine, develop, support, and promote products or services that are rooted in its local culture, community resource, creativity, connection, and competitive advantage. It is a convergent initiative involving DTI and other government agencies and private sector.
