India Gears Up for its Biggest Datacentre and Cloud Spectacle Ever

Amidst unprecedented internet penetration that accounts for over 600 million active users in the country, India is more poised than ever to skyrocket its growth in the Datacentre & Cloud market. It’s already estimated that the Indian datacentre industry will cross $8 billion by 2026 (Arizton Advisory & Intelligence) along with its cloud computing market to reach a staggering $7.1 billion by 2022 (Nasscom).

Taking heed from these massive paradigm shifts and post-receiving phenomenal success in ASEAN, Tradepass has announced its Indian edition of Datacentre & Cloud Conference i.e., Datacentre and Cloud Infrastructure Summit (DCCI) 2021: India (https://india.dccisummit.com), scheduled to take place virtually, on 23 – 24 November.

Following his participation announcement, when asked about the growing impact of the datacentre & cloud industry, Golok Kumar Simli (Chief of Technology – Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India) stated “Hyper Scale Data Center, Cloud Economic Zone and Data Economic Zone would be the driving factors towards emerging global economic order”.

He further added that, “Datacentre and Cloud Infrastructure Summit (DCCI) 2021: India, will not only facilitate collaboration between the biggest stakeholders and the leading tech providers from the industry but will also address the existential trends and the most-pressing roadblocks.”

Moreover, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology’s policy of providing ‘Infrastructure status’ to the Datacentre sector (just like Railways, Roadways, and Power) has sealed the deal for many keen investors from the country and overseas.

Some of the key topics from the summit include ‘Data Sovereignty in the age of Cloud computing’, ‘How Datacentre Automation is powering profits’, ‘Role of Hyperscale Datacentres in IT operations’, ‘Cloud Security’ and many others.

CEKD Posts 7.1% Increase in Full-YCEKD Posts 7.1% Increase in Full-Year Revenue to RM28.23 Millionear Revenue to RM28.23 Million

Company’s performance for the full financial period supported by newer and more complex die-cutting mould orders

CEKD Berhad (CEKD or the Group, Stock Code: 0238), a die-cutting solutions provider has announced that the Company posted an increase of 7.1% full year revenue to RM28.23 million despite posting a decrease of 16.2% in revenue of RM5.77 million for the fourth quarter ended 31 August 2021 (4Q2021), in comparison with the revenue of RM6.88 million in the corresponding quarter of 2020 mainly due to lower orders from customers affected by the stricter nationwide lockdown from June to August 2021.

Managing Director of CEKD, Ms. Yap Kai Ning

CEKD recorded an increase of 7.4% in full year profit before tax (“PBT”) of RM8.54 million despite registering a PBT of RM1.47 million for 4Q2021, which is 28.7% lower than the PBT of RM2.06 million registered in the same quarter of 2020. CEKD recorded an increase of 4.3% in full year profit after tax (“PAT”) while posting a 30.4% decline in PAT for 4Q2021 of RM1.09 million compared with the PAT of RM1.57 million in the corresponding quarter of last year. The Company, which listed on 29 September 2021 on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia, also incurred RM0.61 million for the full-year for initial public offering (“IPO”) expenses.

Managing Director of CEKD, Ms. Yap Kai Ning, said, “We managed to achieve better financial performance for the full year despite the stricter lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 affecting a number of industries. This is mainly due to newer and more complex die-cutting moulds orders received from our customers. For the quarter under review, we had fewer orders because many of our customers from industries such as electrical and electronic, automotive as well as textile and leather industries failed to obtain MITI’s approval to operate. Furthermore, customers with MITI’s approval were only allowed to operate at 60% capacity.”

“As we have shared in the details of our recent initial public offering, we are investing in new factories, new machinery and a software upgrade to enhance production capability and efficiency while catering for growth. With the COVID-19 restrictions on capacity lifted and the successful rollout of the vaccination programme, we have returned to full operations and will take the opportunity to visit customers to strengthen relationships and to get updates from them on their needs and market trends.”

“We hope to participate in trade shows and exhibitions with the travel ban lifted to raise our profile both in the domestic and overseas markets and conduct product demonstration sessions for both existing and prospective customers for business development and marketing purposes.”

Genetec registered RM17.59 million in profit before tax (“PBT”) for the quarter under review, which is 554% higher than the PBT of RM2.69 million recorded for Q2FY2021 while revenue of RM59.31 million is 53% higher than the RM38.67 million posted in Q2FY2021. Earnings per share stood at 31.25 sen (fully diluted) in Q2FY2022 compared to EPS of 6.18 sen in Q2FY2021.

In their announcements the Company highlighted, “It has been an eventful year. Genetec’s bonus issue proposal is part of our efforts to enhance trading liquidity of the Genetec shares, following the recent share price appreciation, as well as to reward existing shareholders on the back of the strong performance of the EV and energy storage divisions. The strong performances have contributed significantly to overall revenue amid steady demand for more sustainable modes of transport and energy. We expect the order book for the EV division to remain significant and to continue contributing to Genetec’s financial performance in the coming quarters. As countries and companies step up their transition towards more sustainable and zero emission transport and energy solutions, we are confident that this growth trajectory will continue. It is well supported by the trifecta of global regulatory frameworks, new incentives to promote the adoption of EVs, and a fast-expanding range of EVs. Meanwhile, EV models are becoming more accessible as the ecosystem grows and battery costs drop further.”

“While we have a more positive outlook as the global economy reopens amid higher vaccination rates, we remain cautious of spikes in COVID-19 infections that may result in supply-chain disruptions and affect consumer sentiment.”

Blockpass has grown significantly in size and use since its inception, both in the number and range of users and organizations it has partnered with and the scope of its work. Blockpass continues to develop its digital identity protocol with updates and additions to improve the compliance experience. The existential need for DeFi projects to be regulatory compliant and the recent integrations have led to a surge in interest for Blockpass’ On-chain KYC(TM) solution. Through its recent work with Animoca Brands, Blockpass is developing the ability to provide KYC where the delivery of the verification result is provably sent and shown on a blockchain without sharing the underlying data. This represents a significant step towards the future Blockpass hopes to bring about where identity verification can be proved without revealing any personal information at all.

Brawijaya University develops IoT-based system for melon cultivation

“Drip irrigation system” implemented at the Agro Techno Park in Malang, East Java

Brawijaya University (UB) has developed an internet of things (IoT)-based system for melon cultivation, currently being implemented at the Agro Techno Park in Malang, East Java. Eka Maulana, a lecturer from the university’s Faculty of Engineering, said the “drip irrigation system” is based on the water content in the planting medium.

“Logically when the soil is dry, the ‘drip irrigation system’ is active. How much water content is in the medium when the drip system is active, as well as data and information related to the mechanism, are sent via an IoT connection. In principle, water has been applied with additional nutrients,” Eka explained to visitors on Friday.

The drip irrigation system cannot only be used for irrigation, said Eka, but also for determining nutritional needs, lighting, temperature and humidity in the melon garden greenhouse, among others things.

“In the process, the ‘drip irrigation system’ works according to the nutritional needs of each plant. So it is not just how much it irrigates the plants, but according to the age of the plants. Control of this system is monitored in terms of time and data variables that have been recorded before,” Eka explained.

Suyadi, Manager of Agriculture and Development at the Agro Techno Park, said the process of providing nutrients to plants periodically through water flow to the media is based on the needs of the plants.

“In a day, it can be done 5 to 10 times, so with this technology, we do not need to manually provide nutrients. It can be left to do other work, because it will automatically turn on the ‘drip irrigation system’ and flow nutrients to the planting media according to the needs of the plant,” he noted.

Suyadi pointed out that the use of IoT has made work easier because the machine turns on automatically whenever the planting media needs nutrients. “So that there is no shortage of nutrients. Because if we are doing it manually, then we still use our instincts when plants need nutrients,” he said.

The application of the drip irrigation system, he said, has turned out to give maximum results to melon plants. “The fruit yields can be better and ideal because the availability of nutrients is stable. If the nutrition is not stable, then the development of melons is not optimal; the fruit can break or the sweetness level will be low,” he noted.

Melons that are cultivated using the ‘drip irrigation system’ are of premium quality, starting from the taste, netted skin that is neatly arranged, and the ideal weight compared to conventional melons, he said. “The market is exclusive, so the taste is definitely different from what is sold in the conventional market. In Jatikerto (Malang), there are several varieties of melon including rock, golden, and honey,” Suyadi added.

He explained that the technology-based agricultural cultivation process in Jatikerto is also being used as a laboratory for students majoring in electrical engineering. “If melon plants are cultivated using a hydroponic system, then what the student does is aeroponic cultivation of vegetables,” he said.

In addition to nutrients that are more easily absorbed, planting with the aeroponic method also leads to faster growth because it uses LED lighting that is more constant than sunlight, he explained. “We can use LED light to trigger the generative phase and the vegetative phase in plants, resulting in increased nutrition, faster growth, and obtaining the desired leaf texture and taste,” he said.

One of the team members who is also an electrical engineering student, Muhammad Romadhani Prabowo said that with the drip irrigation system, plants will be protected from pests or fungi. Vegetables will be safer to eat as they will not even need to be washed, he said. The quality of the harvest will also be more durable than in hydroponic plants, he added.

The concept of aeroponics is currently applied to hydroponic plants, such as lettuce, mustard greens, bok choy (type of Chinese cabbage), basil, and spinach, he said. “Currently, we are also exploring (the drip irrigation system to be implemented for) herbal plants for treatment or plants with high economic value, such as mint and lemon balm,” Prabowo said.

Meanwhile, the development of IoT-based melon cultivation has arisen from the management of horticultural agriculture in Indonesia, which is still mostly done conventionally and with minimal use of technology, he said. This has had an impact on the instability of crop productivity, he added.
