Ni Hsin Group Unveils Two TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycle Models

    • Group targets 15,000 units in sales a year over three years

Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Main Market-listed Ni Hsin Group Berhad (formerly known as Ni Hsin Resources Berhad (Bursa: NIHSIN, 7215)), today unveiled two models of the TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycles.

Bhd.; and Mr. Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of Ni Hsin Ev Tech Sdn. Bhd. [L-R]
The models, the TAILG EBIXON BOLD and TAILG EBIXON TORQ, in the personal and commercial use categories, respectively, are assembled at the Group’s manufacturing facilities in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of NH EV TECH, said, “After more than two years of hard work, from the conceptualisation, R&D, experimentation, trial and error, and close collaboration with our formidable partner, Dongguan Tailing Motor Vehicle Co., Ltd, we finally achieved the milestone with the launching of our TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycles – the Game Changer for Ni Hsin Group.”

The Group started selling coffee from motorcycles in line with BLACKBIXON’s concept of cafe@home cafe@office cafe@anywhere where the BLACKBIXON Coffee Bike can quickly deliver coffee ordered through e-commerce platforms.

Khoo explained, “The first motorcycle we experimented with was an internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle which was not efficient as it was burdensome and costly, and we wanted a vehicle that is environmentally friendly. After a series of trials and experiences, an electrical motorcycle that was clean and has zero tailpipe emission was successfully developed, as our BLACKBIXON Coffee Bike last year.”

“We soon realised that there is a market for this purpose-built machine. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a spike in e-commerce and hence the demand for delivery services. Motorcycles are a popular choice for its quicker delivery time and low maintenance. In light of global warming, EV motorcycles make perfect sense as they are energy efficient and cheaper to maintain.”

“There are lots of opportunities for the use of EVs, with the government providing incentives in the form of tax reliefs for the assembly or manufacturing of EVs, component parts, and the development of EV ecosystems such as charging facilities. The government as well as government-linked companies (GLCs) are also expected to adopt the use of EVs. Also, the global electric scooter and motorcycle market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 10.2% to US$93.9 billion by 2031 from US$35.3 billion in 2021.”

“Our target is to sell 15,000 units of TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycles a year over the next three years covering the Asia Pacific region. We are deep in negotiations with several organisations, GLCs, government agencies and dealers to promote, market and distribute our EV motorcycles in the region. Our business model includes outright sale and rent-to-own modules to businesses as well as consumers.”

The Group’s venture into the manufacture and assembly of EV motorcycles underscores its commitment to social and environmental responsibilities while creating a green revenue stream in carbon trading, in which emissions are treated as either carbon credits or offsets that can be sold in a carbon market such as Bursa Securities Malaysia Berhad’s voluntary carbon market (Bursa VCM), to be opened by the end of 2022.

Ni Hsin’s EV motorcycle business generates carbon offsets that can be sold to other companies to reduce their carbon footprint. The Bursa VCM will, besides providing transparency in the carbon credit market, boost investments in high-quality offsetting projects such as planting trees or shifting to cleaner fuels.

In conjunction with the unveiling of the two TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycle models, Ni Hsin will also sign Memorandum of Agreements with several esteemed and well-connected organisations, including MIMOS Berhad, Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (PROLINTAS), HAI-O Enterprise Bhd and PT Winn Pratama Indonesia to assist in the marketing, promotion and distribution of these EV motorcycles.

Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of NH EV TECH

NH EV TECH had on 23 March 2022 entered into an Original Equipment Manufacturing Agreement (OEM Agreement) with Dongguan Tailing Motor Vehicle Co., Ltd. (TAILG) for the manufacture of EV Bikes or EV Motorcycles as commonly known in Malaysia.

Under the OEM Agreement, TAILG will manufacture the EV Bikes and deliver components, spare parts and software while NH EV TECH will assemble and test as well as run quality control and commission the EV Bikes in Malaysia.

TAILG, established in China in 2004, specializes in R&D, manufacturing, sales and service of new energy electric vehicles. TAILG, which ranks top 3 in China, is recognised as a “Partner of UN Environment E-mobility Programme” and has 7,000 exclusive shops all around the world. TAILG also set the Guinness World Records for the greatest distance by electric scooter, single charge in October of 2020.

The International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) had, on 17 March 2022, issued the Manufacturing Licence to NH EV TECH to act as Licenced Manufacturer to carry out ‘Manufacture and Assembly of Electric Vehicle Bike’ activity at 47, Jalan Taming Dua, Taman Taming Jaya, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor Darul Ehsan as from 29 October 2021 in pursuance of the Industrial Co-ordination Act 1975 (ACT 156).

Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of NH EV TECH, said: “With the VTA approvals, NH EV TECH will commence Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly of its EBIXON EV Bikes in NOVEMBER 2022 and thereafter we will launch the EBIXON EV Bikes in the Malaysian market.”

“The venture into the e-mobility business is in line with the Group’s commitment on ESG. The Ni Hsin EV Bikes are the first fully adapted EV Bikes for the domestic personal and commercial market and will create a new standard in clean transport across the country and beyond.”

“The focus of the new design is to deliver class-leading carrying capacity, range and top speed in order to encourage mass adoption of zero-emission transport across Malaysia, all while simultaneously avoiding the need for additional infrastructure.”

“This is an EV bike tailored for different commercial use-cases such as carrying passengers or cargo with safety at the forefront. It is truly a testament to our commitment to offering world-class EV technology in the ASEAN region.”

“Our EBIXON EV Bike models feature a dual swappable battery system offering a combined range of up to 200 km (112 mi). The batteries can be plugged into a home outlet to charge or be swapped at designated battery stations. Additionally, the battery power can be replenished at a public charger.”

“Through extensive research and development initiatives in collaboration with TAILG, EBIXON EV Bikes are designed and developed to reach “near cost parity” with internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles in the Malaysian market, but at a running cost that’s up to 70% lower. EBIXON EV Bikes are designed to suit the Malaysian and regional climate, road conditions and ridership styles while ensuring quality, performance, comfort, handling efficiency and lastly, affordability.”

“NH EV TECH is currently working with large commercial motorcycle distribution channels and battery swapping station owners across Malaysia and ASEAN, including financiers for its customers and large commercial fleets,” Khoo added.

“We are targeting to sell 50,000 units of EBIXON EV Bikes in Malaysia and ASEAN in the next three years. Demand for EV Bikes in the region is expected to see explosive growth over the next three to 10 years, surpassing Europe and East Asia. This growth is supported by the region’s e-commerce market, which is valued at US$2.53 billion in 2022 and is expected to have a compound average growth rate of 20.6% over the five-year period to 2027 according to International Trade Administration data. We will work with local partners in the various countries for the assembly and distribution of EBIXON EV Bikes.”

  • Ni Hsin Signs HOA with MNA Energy to Develop Battery Technology for EV Two Wheelers

Ni Hsin Signs HOA with MNA Energy to Develop Battery Technology for EV Two Wheelers

    • Collaboration includes establishing battery-swapping platform and participation in MNAE’s growth

Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Main Market-listed Ni Hsin Group Berhad (formerly known as Ni Hsin Resources Berhad) (Ni Hsin), today entered into a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with MNA Energy Sdn Bhd (MNAE) to develop battery technology for electric motorcycles (EV Two Wheelers) as well as participate in the business and growth of MNAE.

Mr. Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of Ni Hsin Group Berhad; Encik Muhammad Syukri Ibrahim, Principal Private Secretary to the MOSTI Minister; Encik Syed Faisal Algadrie, Managing Director and CEO of MNA Research Sdn Bhd [L-R]

MNAE was established in 2016 and has been awarded research grants by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) for the development of next-generation battery technology. MNAE produces battery energy storage systems for electric mobility and stationary applications such as telecommunications towers and solar energy farms. It is pioneering Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (EMaaS) in Malaysia, by developing SmartSwap – a game-changing turnkey solution for a battery swapping infrastructure for Electric Motorcycles.

The HOA signing was witnessed by Encik Muhammad Syukri Ibrahim, the Principal Private Secretary to the MOSTI Minister.

Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn Bhd, said: “We see EV Two Wheelers leading the adoption of alternative power sources that can reduce carbon footprint and transition towards a greener economy. We are developing, in collaboration with MNAE, an advanced battery system and a standardised battery swapping infrastructure for EV Two Wheelers that will be convenient to riders who can easily swap their depleted batteries with fully-charged ones at stations that we are setting up. We believe this will boost the use of EV Two Wheelers in urban areas”.

“Our collaboration with MNAE complements our venture into the e-mobility business as battery systems are critical to EV Two Wheelers that we are developing in a collaboration with Dongguan Tailing Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. We are now working towards getting the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) permit from the Road Transport Department for these EV Two Wheelers as the VTA is important for MNAE’s SmartSwap programme”.

The battery swapping system developed by MNAE will feature battery tracking and management via cloud-connected network through which the battery’s lifespan can be monitored. The system can be compared to the one launched by Gogoro, the Taiwanese battery-swapping refueling platform for urban EV Two Wheelers.

Khoo added, “Our collaboration with MNAE is also about supporting local capabilities in the development of green technology while promoting sustainability in line with our environmental, social and governance responsibilities. This is also in line with Malaysia’s drive to encourage electric vehicle ownership and development of related infrastructure in the country”.

The EV ecosystem is supported by Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy, in which there are specific initiatives to strengthen the ecosystem. According to Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin, Minister of International Trade and Industry in his winding-up speech for the 12th Malaysia Plan, these initiatives include critical parts manufacturers, standard setting as well as research and development leading to commercialisation of local EV technologies.

  • Ni Hsin Ventures into Fifth-Party Logistics (5PL)

Ni Hsin Ventures into Fifth-Party Logistics (5PL)

Ni Hsin Ecologistics Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bursa Malaysia Main Market-listed Ni Hsin Group Berhad (formerly known as Ni Hsin Resources Berhad) (“Ni Hsin”), has today entered into an Investment Agreement for the acquisition of a 60% stake in Pride Logistics Alliance Sdn Bhd (“PLA”) (“the Proposed Acquisition”).

Established in 2014, PLA is principally engaged in providing freight forwarding services. The Company’s business includes freight, forwarding, haulage & transportation, warehousing and international agency services.

Managing Director of Ni Hsin Ecologistics Sdn Bhd, Khoo Chee Kong, said: “We are diversifying into the logistics industry to complement our food and beverage business as we see this acquisition as cementing the last mile of the ecosystem where we are using electric vehicles for delivery. PLA has an experienced team with the knowledge and expertise in logistics that we can leverage on.”

Ni Hsin also sees the acquisition as a springboard into the logistics business, especially in fifth-party logistics (5PL), where it can manage all supply-chain processes for customers supported by a sizeable warehouse equipped with Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), which is designed to buffer, store, and retrieve product and inventory on demand. Other ASRS benefits include more efficient use of floor space, increased storage density, increased order-picking accuracy and improved product security for premium inventory.

“Our ASRS-equipped warehouse is strategically located in the Klang Valley and is well suited for 5PL operations as well as fulfillment services business through the entire value chain from storage to shipping to handling returns from customers at minimum cost. The market is also currently facing a shortage of warehouse space and rentals have risen significantly.”

Khoo adds “Given the more complicated supply chain arising from the growth of e-commerce and higher expectations from customers, many businesses are now looking to outsource their logistics management to others and we are in a good position to seize this opportunity with the support of PLA and the resources of our warehouse. We believe the share of 5PL providers in the global logistics market will increase considerably over the next few years.”
